IT Security Specialist

based in Kyiv, Ukraine

Goal:

IT Security  Specialist will ensure the organization’s network, computer hardware, and data are protected from security breaches and cyber threats; and as the HIPAA Security Officer ensures that the Company complies with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) Security Rule.

Job Duties:

  • Collaborates with users to discuss computer data access needs, to identify security threats and violations, and to identify and recommend needed programming or process changes.
  • Uses data encryption, firewalls, and other appropriate security tools and applications to conceal and protect transfers of confidential digital information.
  • Develops and implements plans to safeguard digital data from accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure; adheres to emergency data processing needs.
  • Reviews violations of security procedures; provides training to ensure violations do not recur.
  • Runs access rights management across company’s systems, monitors and restricts access to sensitive, confidential, or other high-security data.
  • Modifies security files and applications as able and necessary to provide specialized access, allow new software to be installed or integrated, or correct errors.
  • Performs risk assessments, audits, and tests to ensure proper functioning of data processing activities and security measures.
  • Safeguards system security and improves overall server and network efficiency by training users and promoting security awareness.
  • Determines when to update virus protection systems by monitoring current reports of computer viruses; facilitates or performs needed updates.
  • Coordinates the continuous development, implementation and updating of security and privacy policies, standards, guidelines, baselines, processes and procedures in compliance with applicable compliance regulations and standards including but not limited to: Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
  • Receives allegations of security incidents and conducts complex investigations; prepares written findings, recommendations and follow up evaluation; and analyzes patterns and trends.
  • Collaborate with Compliance Officer to ensure that the Company’s IT systems and procedures comply with all relevant data privacy and protection law, regulation and policy.

          As the HIPAA Security Officer:

  • Responsible for creating, implementing, and enforcing Company’s security program that focuses on the administrative, physical, technical, and organizational safeguards per the HIPAA Security Rule.
  • Responsible for integrating IT security and HIPAA compliance with the Company´s business strategies and requirements.
  • Conduct HIPAA security risk assessments to monitor administrative, physical, technical, and organizational safeguards.
  • Responsible for addressing issues related to access controls, business continuity, disaster recovery, and incident response.
  • Ensure that the security policies and procedures sufficiently protect the PHI and develop policies and procedures where gaps arise.
  • Responsible for investigating data and security breaches and implementing measures for their future prevention and/or containment.
  • Responsible for Company security awareness, including staff training in collaboration with the HIPAA Privacy Officer (Compliance Officer).

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or Information Systems is required.
  • Thorough understanding of computer programming and risk management.
  • Thorough understanding of computer-related security systems, including firewalls, password protection and authentication, and site-specific controls on physical access to computers.
  • Thorough understanding of HIPAA’s Security Rule requirements and guidelines.
  • Excellent knowledge of information technology, data protection, and security safeguards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • English proficiency
